The drive to improve and innovate is something that never stops for us. There is never a time when we aren’t taking a step back and having a good look at the very same bikes we ride, and trying to work out how we can modify, change, or even just totally re-think even the smallest component into something better.

When it came to designing our first four-piece handlebar, we really wanted to go back to the drawing board and address all the issues that four piece bars have always notoriously suffered from. The Strangler Bar utilises a new technology resulting in an incredibly strong and durable handlebar like nothing else…

The first thing you will notice on the Strangler Bar is the oversize 25.4mm tubing used near the clamping area. You will have noticed a few other brands offering this new bar/stem standard, and for good reason.

The increased 25.4mm diameter tube where the stem clamps the bar, allows the bar to be clamped much more securely than the traditional 22.2mm tubing found on most bars and stems. As bars have got taller and taller over the years, the amount of leverage going through the bar and into the stem often causes the bar to either slip in the stem, or even worse crack at the clamping area on both 2pc and especially on 4pc bars. The Strangler bar combines the bigger 25.4mm clamping area with a matching 25.4mm griptube that then tapers back to a regular 22.2mm tube further up the bar. By using larger diameter tubing at the contact area, you are almost doubling the amount of material touching, resulting in a significantly stronger junction.

You can see here the Strangler bar compared to a regular 4pc bar. The 25.4mm tubing on the Strangler bar allows the two tubes to have a much more solid junction, preventing any cracking at the weld.

The bigger clamping area and tapered tubing gives the Strangler bar a subtle, but unique look.

With the Strangler bars only working with a 25.4mm bore stem, we will be releasing a selection of our 2016 stems in a 25.4mm option to match. The stems don’t differ too much from their 22.2mm versions in appearance, just an increased bore to accommodate the larger tube.

Another feature we will be using on our 25.4mm and some of our standard 22.2mm stem for 2016 is the new knurled STC (Shark Tooth Clamping). The sharp teeth inside the stem bite into the knurling on the bar, absolutely gripping it in place and preventing it from slipping. You can also find this technology on stems from Wethepeople, Salt and Saltplus for 2016.

The Strangler bar will be available Summer 2016 in either 9.6″ and 9.1″ rises with compatible 25.4mm Stems available at the same time.
